Tours of Tours

 

Be guided through Tours’ intense and rich culture and enjoy its exquisite art-de-vivre!
The tours programme and conditions are indicated below.

 

• All tours will be conducted in English.
• Lunch and entrance fees are not included.
• The organisers reserve the right to cancel tours with less than 20 participants.

Monday 23/08/10 Trip #1 V23A Walking tour in the city of Tours

14:00 - 17:00

Meeting point: Congress venue.

Transportation by walk with an English speaking guide.

Lunch and entrance fees not included.

Tours is a real experience, a city with a lively student
atmosphere that complements its cultured heritage.
Stopping off for a drink in the famous Place Plumereau,
you are surrounded by history and part of this friendly,
vibrant city at the same time. Exploring the squares
and back streets of the renowned historical district of
Plumereau to the square by Saint Gatian's Cathedral,
you will spend your time drifting between today and yesteryear

 

 

Monday 23/08/10 Trip #2 V23B Half day tour to Azay le Rideau & Villandry

Château d'Azay-le-Rideau. This magnificent building
was built during the reign of Francis I. It is surrounded
by grounds designed to form a haven of greenery
around this Renaissance gem, the facades of which
are reflected in the still waters of the Indre.
The château is in the centre of Azay-le-Rideau,
offering visitors the opportunity for a pleasant stroll
around the streets of the town. Throughout the
summer, the night-time "Imaginaires" show lights
up the château in a myriad different colours.

The present Château de Cheverny is an original
jewel among the more famous monuments
that stretch along the Loire Valley. Cheverny has
maintained the same exterior for the last 350 years,
without gaining the smallest wrinkle!

Château de Chenonceau / Like Amboise,
Azay-le-Rideau and Villandry, Chenonceau
is one of the classic Loire Valley châteaux. Built astride
the river Cher, its famous gallery is one of its finest features,
as are the gardens created by Diane of Poitiers and
Catherine de Medici. In the outbuildings there is a
plant nursery which supplies the flowers used to
decorate the château interior, where you can buy
a floral souvenir of your visit.

Thursday 26/08/10 Trip #1 V26A Visit Rigny-Usse castle

At the edge of the forest of Chinon the striking white silhouette
of Chateau d'Usse overlooks the Indre Valley. It was
here that Perrault was inspired to write his famous fairy-tale
Sleeping Beauty. After the initial foundations were laid during
the XIth century the major construction work took place during
the XVth and XVIth centuries. Successive owners of the
Chateau all brought there own personal touch thus
bestowing a very unique charm upon it. Today the
Chateau is home to the Duke of Blacas and his family.
